As a cubmaster with a household of scouts, I don’t normally take part in excursions like this. I plan them and send the dads 🤗
My husband thought a good ‘ole 3 hour kayaking tour was just what my arms needed for a milestone birthday. I was hesitant but we already paid, so we did it. The four of us had a great time all thanks to Justin and Anthony (Eagle Scout and literally the only reason I did not freak over it at the last minute and back out!)
We had a blast and our boys got to see some real ocean life up close. This trip was one of those things you need to do before you die. My arms almost died but I’m still here, just sore.
We talked baseball with Justin (good luck on your junior season!) and found more scouts on the trip as well. Anthony’s parents are both biologists and he was a great resource, making this trip so much more interesting. I never thought I would enjoy something like this but it was a highlight of our vacation. The various stops allowed us to see ocean life up close and the facts Anthony knew were insane. Such a good time!

We were looking for an outdoor activity to see more of Assateague in the one day we had and this was the perfect spot!
They have bikes and kayaks for rent- my friend and I rented a tandem kayak for 2 hours and got to explore the marsh ecosystem more closely. Staff were friendly and helpful, prices were fair.

I’ve rented kayaks from Assateague Outfitters twice for some paddle-in backcountry camping. Although they only have sit-on boats now, they are very bay-worthy vessels if the winds aren’t too bad. And the outfitter team is wonderful for suggestions and worked with us around weather conditions to adjust our booking. Assateague is a magical place, but I loved getting to see parts of the island that most people don’t get to see!
